No visit to Dublin can be considered complete without a visit to the world renown 'Book of Kells'. The book of Kells contains the four gospels of the New Testament in Latin and is widely regarded as Ireland's finest national treasure.
This Book of Kells is set apart from other illuminated gospels of the period by the extravagance and complexity of the work. Here we will see figures of humans, animals and mythical beasts among the intricate patterns and vibrant colours that abound everywhere you look.
Looking at this fabulous manuscript, again and again we have to pause and remind ourselves that this amazingly intricate work was carried out by Celtic monks, circa 800AD, by natural and candle light only! Without electric light and no computers to correct mistakes, how did those holy men achieve such divine standards of artistic achievements?
Our tour will include a guided walk through the historic and beautiful Trinity College and a tour of the Book of Kells and Trinity's famous Long Room.
Please note this tour runs seasonally from the months of April to September only. Additional dates available for group bookings.
